The last update from SAIEE President Mr. TC Madikane, Pr Eng FSAIEE FSAAE

This is my last update as the President of this prestigious Voluntary Association of Electrical Practitioners. On the 30th March 2017, I will hand over the leadership of SAIEE to Jacob Machinjike, who is currently Eskom General Manager: Upkeep of National Power Grid Transmission Assets. I encourage our members, their guests and members of other constituent societies to join us for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at SA Museum of Military History, Saxonwold, Johannesburg.

The institute’s growth strategy is to ensure that we work closely with other Voluntary Associations that serve Electrical Practitioners. We hope that one day we will have a merger of these various societies. On the 17 th of February 2017, I attended the AGM of South African Council of Automation and Controls (SACAC) at the Forum Homini, Mogale City. Members of SACA include Universities and Measurement & Control Companies. SACAC will host the Control Conference Africa (CCA2017) on the 7-8 December 2017 in Johannesburg and I encourage our members who are in control and automation space to diarise and attend accordingly.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities are one the key activities that SAIEE offers to its members and electrical engineering practitioners. The Executive Committee (EXCO) took a decision to host the 2 nd smart grid conference on the 19-21 of September 2017 at Eskom Academy of Learning in Midrand. We thank Eskom in advance for their continuing support and collaborations with SAIEE. I encourage our members to diarise these key dates. Further details will be shared on our website and social media in due course.

The President’s report will be tabled at the AGM on the 30th March and will also be included in the April edition of the wattnow magazine. It has really been my pleasure and an honour to serve SAIEE and indeed the theme for 2016, #ploughback and #makeithappen has been fulfilled and the details will be in my Presidential report.
