This is your opportunity to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of members of the electrical and electronic engineering community.

 

The Presidents Award is the SAIEE’s premier annual award with a premium to the value of R15000  was sponsored in 2009 by Rotek Engineering.The award recognises current major contributions in any sector of electrical, electronic, telecommunications and computer engineering in and is open to all living individual persons living in (members and non-members of the SAIEE). The award is not intended to recognise long or distinguished service, but current major engineering contributions. The recipient of this award for 2009 was Prof. Hu Hanrahan for his contributions to in the fields of Tertiary Education and the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

The SAIEE Engineer of the Year Award is awarded to a member of the SAIEE who has energetically and voluntarily worked towards promoting electrical science and its applications for the benefit of SAIEE members and the Southern African community through his/her involvement in Institute affairs, who is recognised and honoured through this award. The award, with a premium to the value of R10000 is once again sponsored this year by Actom (Alstom SA). The recipient of this award for 2009 was Mr Viv Cohen for his contribution to the Institute in the field of technical standards.

The Keith Plowden Young Achievers Award, with a premium to the value of R7500, is sponsored again this year by Powertech Transformers. The award, which is named in memory of Keith Plowden, a past President of the Institute who played a significant role in the electrical power industry in , is awarded to the most outstanding young achiever of the year in the field of Electrical/Electronic engineering. This award is open to all persons living in (members and non-members) for current major contributions in the electrical / electronic engineering field. To be eligible, the age of nominees must be 35 years or less during the stated calendar year of the award. To quote from the nomination form: “Whether such persons work in large progressive companies or organizations, or in smaller dynamic ones, is of no consequence – it is the spirit of achievement, creativity and leadership that counts. These rare qualities must be recognized and nurtured wherever they are found. Innovative, entrepreneurial action plus an infectious enthusiasm to succeed are the qualities exhibited by young achievers”. The winner of this award in 2009 was Mr Luthando Precious Peter of Eskom.
