We are all called to communications technology. Our reasons and regions may be widely different, but our goal is the same:

To advance communications and networking technology for the betterment of humanity.

Right now, in more than 140 countries around the world, tens of thousands of members are actively working as engineers, academics, practitioners, scientists, executives, and associates—contributing new ideas and information to our collective knowledge, developing higher industry standards, and changing the way we all communicate, for the better.

Our Mission Statement

The IEEE Communications Society promotes technological innovation and fosters creation and sharing of information among the global technical community. The Society provides services to members for their technical and professional advancement and forums for technical exchanges among professionals in academia, industry, and public institutions.

OUR HISTORY

Originally founded in 1952 as the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) Professional Group on Communication Systems (PGCS), today’s IEEE Communications Society (IEEE ComSoc) has evolved to include a diverse group of global industry professionals dedicated to advancing all communication technologies and the improvement of the world around them.

An independent Society of IEEE since 1972, our 220+ professional Chapters and 220+ student branch chapters in 140+ countries is comprised of 30,000 members who—

  • Discover the latest breakthroughs, cutting-edge information and research on communications technologies sharing their learnings through access to diverse ComSoc 5 magazines , 21 journals and 43 conferences .
  • Connect and collaborate through networking opportunities and participate in local technical activities with any of our 220+ chapters / 220+ student branch chapters around the world.
  • Stay relevant and deepen our communities' understanding of key aspects of communications technologies through quality training , certification programs and Technical Committees .

Membership Option 1

Add ComSoc to an IEEE Membership.

If you are already an IEEE member, you can easily add ComSoc to your IEEE membership . If you are not an IEEE member, join today. IEEE ComSoc Membership Dues (add-on) are just US$71 for Preferred and only US$33 for Essential membership packages annually. March through August, new members enjoy half-year dues pricing for US$35.50 for Preferred and only US$16.50 for Essential membership packages. You can review our dues pricing here as you may be eligible to apply for special discounts.

Become an Affiliate Member.

Only want to join IEEE ComSoc? Affiliate members are only ComSoc members and are not IEEE members. This means you will not have access to any IEEE benefits that are reserved for only IEEE members, but you will have full access to ComSoc benefits . Get your IEEE ComSoc Affiliate Membership Dues for just US$109.50. March through August, new Affiliate members enjoy half-year dues pricing of US$54.75.

Choose Special Membership.

ComSoc has united with IEEE in offering reduced dues options to members who are unemployed, retired, or meet a minimum income threshold.

Also, if you reside in a country where the per Gross National Income (GNI) is US$15,000 or less, you may be eligible for a reduced rate electronic membership for your IEEE and ComSoc membership.

MEMBERSHIP FOR STUDENTS

Students in communication fields can accelerate their professional growth by being part of ComSoc at early stages of their careers. As a student, you can only join ComSoc by being an IEEE member first. Annual IEEE student dues range from US $27 – $37, depending the region where you live. Add-on annual ComSoc Student Membership for only US$1 more. New student members enjoy half-year pricing when they join March – August.

IEEE now offers a reduced dues option for all student and graduate student members. Students who use promotion code FUTURE50 when you join or renew will enjoy a 50% discount on IEEE membership! Be sure to add-on the ComSoc ESSENTIAL package!

IEEE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

IEEE Young Professionals (YPs) is an affinity group of members and volunteers within sections and regions who have less than 15 years from their first professional degree. It does not imply any special membership fee.

In addition to all IEEE ComSoc membership benefits, the Young Professionals within ComSoc have access to the exclusive Annual IEEE ComSoc Best Young Professional Awards and regional awards that recognize the best work on papers, abstracts, and innovations.

To join the ComSoc Young Professionals community, you need to be both an IEEE and an IEEE ComSoc member.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

ComSoc offers many volunteer opportunities that encompass a wide range of skills and activities. You can gain additional experience and enhance your leadership skills while supporting the Society and the communications technology profession.
