This course covers overcurrent and earth fault protection theory, distance protection theory, protection grading and load flow (theory and example), calculation of protection settings, advantages of modern microprocessor relays, fault recording and fault reporting facilities in modern microprocessor relays, theory of unit protection, transformer protection theory and example, advanced features in modern microprocessor transformer relays, motor protection theory and application. The course will cover protection of motors smaller than 1MW and motors larger than 1MW capacitor bank protection theory. Generator protection theory and application, importance of fault recording and fault reporting modern microprocessor generator relays, discussing the most important recent advances in Generator protection relays. Importance of instrument transformers in applications of modern microprocessor relays, correct selection of instrument transformers for protection relays.
