Course Overview and Outline:

The SC B1 Committee of CIGRE (Insulated Cables) covers underground and submarine, AC and DC, Insulated Cable Systems and was established in 1927.

The scope of work of SC B1 is: Theory, design, applications, manufacture, installation, testing, operation, maintenance and diagnostics techniques for land and submarine, AC and DC insulated cable systems.

This tutorial session will share some of the work published in Technical Brochures (TB) by SC B1 on Cable systems. Specific focus will be on reliability of HV cable systems covering the following topics:

  1. Cable system basics
  2. Cable accessory workmanship of extruded HV cables (TB 476)
  3. Maintenance and integrity of HV Cables and Accessories (TB 560 and TB 279)
  4. Guide for the operation of SCFF (fluid filled) cable systems (TB 652)
  5. Cable rating basics
  6. Long term performance of soil and backfill systems (TB 714)
  7. Thermal Monitoring of underground cables (TB 247)

Target Audience:

Electrical Engineering disciplines, specialising in HV cable system design, operations and maintenance.
