Poor specifications make projects more expensive, because contractors and suppliers are uncertain as to what the client really wants. Thus, to cover their risk they inflate their prices. Many projects also fail because of poor specifications. When this happens, legal disputes arise and contracts, including the specifications, are scrutinized. Poor specifications will leave everybody, consultant, engineer, client and contractors, in a difficult position. The aim of this workshop is to develop skills to write good technical specifications for the electrical power industry. These specifications are structured to clearly define the technical needs in general and specific terms, the conditions in which the equipment will operate, and the functional and performance criteria of the equipment.
