Post-Doctoral Research Position in an interdisciplinary project :



The Mechanical Engineering Science Department of the UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG seeks to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at its Auckland Park Kingsway Campus in the field of applied particle and nuclear physics applied in medical and industrial environments. This project embraces the aspects of modern sensors, high throughput data, big data, data visualization, machine learning, applications of these in medicine and industry, interfacing to venture capitalists and the market and the possibility of generating new intellectual property. The successful candidate could be exposed to the full process of innovation. The particular case here is the use of Positron Emission Technology (PET) in contexts that are medical and beyond. The highest immediate priority is the  MinPET case, the online discovery of diamondiferous kimberlite at run-of-mine rates.


The duration of the Post Doc funding is up to three years but renewable annually based on mutual agreement. There is an opportunity to be involved in teaching and student supervision for candidates who would like to develop this aspect of their CV.
