WEBINAR WEDNESDAY SERIES

The South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE)'s Building Services Section will host a webinar series called "Webinar Wednesday" (WW) in 2025. Starting in February 2025, these webinars will occur every first Wednesday of the month.

The first webinars in this series will focus on Small Wind Energy.

Small wind energy systems have been gaining popularity in various regions worldwide, including South Africa, Europe, and the United States. These systems have succeeded in the built environment, industrial parks, agricultural pack houses, and farms.

This series will cover the technology behind small wind energy systems, their economic and environmental impact, and case studies of successful implementations.

Whether you are a homeowner looking to reduce your carbon footprint, a business owner exploring alternative energy sources, or simply curious about the potential of small wind energy, this webinar series is an excellent opportunity to learn more about this sustainable and renewable energy solution.

Herewith are the first three webinars and their registration links:

WW 1: The Potential of Small Wind Turbines - 5 February 2025 |  18h00

The wind pump is familiar on our farms, so why not use wind turbines to produce electrical energy? This introduction will help Farmers and Industry navigate their decision-making about adding wind turbines to their local renewable energy systems.

 WW 2: Profitable Small Wind Turbines - 5 March 2025  |  18h00

The value of a local energy system is clear, but how do we understand the CAPEX and OPEX?

How to evaluate a small wind turbine’s potential: -

  • Will it work for you?

  • What would a business plan look like?

  • How to make it work?

  • How to fund and build it?

  • How to make it last?

WW 3: 2nd Life Refurbished Turbines - 2 April 2025  |  18h00

As Europe repowers its older (and successful) wind turbine sites, the existing turbines become available. Many can be shipped in the standard 12m container, making importing them into South Africa economically feasible. But how does this all work?

Teams based in Europe will explain the process and how they conduct due diligence on your behalf before you buy.

Engineers from Vesta will explain further how they refurbish units and their complete solution, which includes the supply of refurbished turbines, transportation to the site, and installation.
