Mentorship

REGISTRATION AS A MENTOR

The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)’s documents R2/1 and R-01-P define the policy for registering persons in the professional categories of Professional Engineer, Professional Engineering Technologist, Professional Certificated Engineer, and Professional Engineering Technician.

After completing their tertiary education, engineering graduates register with ECSA as Candidates and undergo a minimum of three years' training and experience. During this period, Candidates develop the competencies detailed in ECSA’s Guide to Competency Standards R-08-Px and Competency Standards R-02-PE/PT/PN/CE.

Guide R-04-P provides guidance to candidates, mentors, and supervisors on training and mentoring, while Discipline Specific Training Guides R-05/06/07-Px provide guidance on training and experience for registration in disciplines and categories.

Mentors guide candidates during the training and experience process, and mentoring is integral to this process.

For more information on becoming a mentor, please email reception@saiee.org.za.
